Local United Way to distribute additional prescription discount cards
By Cheryll A. Borgaard | July 26, 2010
The United Way has distributed 28,000 free prescription discount cards locally in the last 2 1/2 years, but executive director Bob Johnson wants to do more.
Following a presentation to the Longview City Council last week, Johnson said council members agreed to allow him to distribute 17,000 of the discount cards in water bills sent to city customers.
“We’re just doing everything we can to continue to get the word out,” Johnson said Monday.
The prescription discount cards originate at the FamilyWize Community Service Partnership, based in Bethlehem, Pa. That organization distributes the cards to United Way agencies, which then give out the cards in their communities.
