Project Overview
United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties is seeking applications from nonprofits, businesses, or other organizations that can hire, train, and oversee an Early Learning Navigator who can help families in Cowlitz & Wahkiakum identify and access early learning opportunities and essential social services.

Organizations must know about available services and be committed to continuously learning and connecting with additional resources.

An Early Learning Navigator must be accessible to families in need, conduct outreach, and be connected within the early learning community in Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties.

Project Budget & Timing
United Way will provide up to $65,000 for an Early Learning Navigator to be employed for one full calendar year.  The organization must be equipped to begin hiring and training immediately.

Background & Goal
United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties’ mission is to mobilize the caring power of our community to continuously improve the lives of every person in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties.

We are committed to ensuring that by 2032, at least 80% of local children are prepared for kindergarten, as studies show that when barriers are removed and children are provided with opportunities early in life, they are more likely to do well in kindergarten and throughout their entire educational careers.

Our community offers many early learning services, including Head Start, public T-K, private preschool, services for children with special needs, playgroups, and more.  Accessing these services is essential to helping children develop the social-emotional and academic skills they will need in school and helping children from underserved populations overcome barriers. For many families, identifying and navigating these opportunities poses a challenge.  An Early Learning Navigator is needed to help families identify and access these services.

In addition, for families to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children, families need to have access to medical care, mental health support, food, job training skills, transportation, housing, and more.  An Early Learning Navigator is needed to help families identify and access services to help meet their basic needs.
